Fourier Transform Infra-red analysis (FTIR)

Identifies a material or mix by fingerprinting the blend based on a sweep in the infra-red spectrum. This can then be compared to a standard fingerprint spectrum.

Individual components can also be identified.

 

Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)

Offers a breakdown of major components based on weight loss, as the temperature is ramped up.

Can be run in nitrogen or air.

We have a Discovery HiRes mode which can run in mode 7. This can be used to separate overlapping peaks. Mode 4 is our standard sensitivity. Higher resolution modes attract higher costs eg. Mode 7 takes 14 hours of instrument time and nitrogen gas flow usage.

 

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC)

Is used to define Glass Transition, melting point and crystallisation point and can be used to confirm polymer types

 

Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)

Used to identify Tg via Tan Delta, Modulus and Damping

TGA/DSC – offer the ability to analyse data as it comes off the TGA

 

Rubber Technology

Full range of Mixing, Rheometer, Mooney Scorch, Curing and testing for Tensile, Elongation at Break, Modulus, Hardness

Injection moulding, Melt Flow Index (MFI), Impact testing of plastics

Problem solving, SEM/TEM/Light Microscopy

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)

Breaks down individual materials in the process of identification

 

CT Scan

Produces 3D pictures of items and digitally slices through the item to identify internal structural integrity

 

High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

Separation and Identification techniques
